JAXA has joined the Solar System Exploration Research Virtual Institute (SSERVI) managed by NASA as an international partner.
Supported by NASA's Science Mission Directorate and Human Exploration Operations Mission Directorate, SSERVI aims to enhance international collaboration and interdisciplinary research on human and robotic exploration of the solar system in US and international institutions. The SSERVI central office is located at NASA Ames Research Center, and it is responsible for managing and connecting human exploration and science in the US.
A number of research institutes in the US as well as several international organizations have participated in its activities, and JAXA has become the 11th international partner.
The Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS) and JAXA Space Exploration Center (JSEC) have been conducting space exploration. Collaborating with SSERVI will allow JAXA to accelerate researches and international cooperation in the field of solar system science, data management and utilization, education and public outreach.
In the aim of participating in exploration activities beyond low-earth orbit carried out in international collaboration, JAXA will foster communication with overseas institutions and communities in research activities regarding human exploration and in-situ resource utilization (ISRU) technology through SSERVI.
