The Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS) consists of 5 research departments, Management and Integration Department, External Affairs Office for Space Science, Department of Space Science Program, Department of Disciplinary Engineering. Under ISAS's Executive Director are a Principal Administrator, Research Director, Program Director and Senior Chief Officer of Disciplinary Engineering. In JAXA, the Board of Councilors advises JAXA's President on space science tasks, and selects and recommends the candidate for Executive Director of ISAS. In ISAS, the Advisory Council for Research and Management works to smooth operation of the inter-university research institute system.
